Craig encourages others to take up DIY

The Independent

DIY specialists Homebase have recently announced that they will be closing 25% of their stores by 2018. Craig Phillips has commented in an article in The Independent about the reasons he believes less people are making their own home improvements.

He believes that the basic skills of DIY are not being passed down from generation to generation as much as they were in the past. He has also argued that people are not buying houses until later in life and do not need to learn the skills to maintain their homes. When people rent a place, it is the landlord’s responsibility to make sure everything is in order.

Despite all of this, Craig believes that everyone has the ability to learn basic skills, and the internet provides thousands of hours of online tutorials so people do not have to rely upon being taught in person.
