Craig Phillips is joining ITV Daybreak's nationwide campaign to "Get Britain Reading". Craig will be appearing live on Daybreak as him and his dedicated team build a library for a school that doesn't currently have one.
Daybreak is launching the nationwide campaign "Get Britain Reading" on Monday 27th February. Thousands of kids are leaving school without adequate reading skills, one in three children does not own a book and over six million adults in Britain cannot read, which is staggering. Daybreak wants to change this. No-one should have to live without the basic skill of being able to read. The Daybreak campaign is aimed at getting viewers to recognise the importance of reading.
From Monday 27th Daybreak will be asking viewers to pledge time to read each day, with a LIVE pledge counter that will clearly show across the week how support is building throughout the whole of the UK. Daybreak are working with various charities, including the Booktrust, National Literacy Trust, Dyslexia Action & the Salvation Army, about the issues surrounding illiteracy and dyslexia. Plus the campaign aims to help families caught in a trap through generations not having gained the vital skills they need to get ahead in life.
Daybreak are also involving schools nationwide and Craig will be building a complete library for one school that currently does not have one. All week Daybreak will be travelling around the UK on a special "book bus", asking viewers to give a book and drop them into Daybreak bins in Morrisons supermarkets and Waterstones book stores nationwide.
Craig is delighted to be supporting the campaign, commenting: "Reading is perhaps the most important tool for children to learn at school (as well as being great fun and rewarding!) I'm delighted to be supporting this exciting campaign to get the country reading!"
